on what should be a bustling saturday in the city of lights, in many ways, it's a ghost town other than those paying tribute by laying flowers and candles at attack sites. also, the only other people on the street, police restoring peace to a shaken and saddened nation. good morning, this is "nbc 10 news today," i'm rosemary connors, 9:00 on saturday. here's what we know at this point. take a look. this video in showing isis claiming responsibility for the attacks. nbc news has not authenticated  it, but it's similar from previous messages from the group. they described the attacks as an act of war. at least 127 people were killed in the shootings and explosions at several sites in paris. as soon as we learned from the attacks, we sent nbc 10's jim rosenfield to france by way of

rosemary, the islamics would remain, quote, at the top of the list of targets, and terrorists call it a capital of adultery and vice. their words. we know that right now, french squaurts a security is meeting to discuss next steps after attacks from eight assailants who are now dead. you can hear some of the explosions in the brand new video taken at the theater hall, and watch as the crowds there for a concert race for the back exits. the doors you see there, and up at the top of the screen, you even see people apparently hanging from windows to excape explosions and gunfire. the theater was the scene of the most devastation with dozens taken hostage and many killed. meantime, this new video shows another scene this morning with forensics investigators at work

at one of the restaurants targeted as well as a soccer stadium. news reports indicated one living in paris was eating dinner with american friends near the cafe last night. we talked to her via skpe this morning, she described the chaos of getting alerts about the terror nearby. >> so as americans, we felt a sense of -- we wanted to be safe first, and i contacted the u.s. embassy. they told us not to go there because it was a potential target. everyone was advised to stay indoors. we went to the kitchen of the restaurant, hiding out there just to be safe. i was trying to remain calm for my friends because it was their first time in paris. >> reporter: jessica and her american friends from new jersey are safe now. they eventually took shelter in their apartments and airnb

homes. meanwhile, video showing french mourners placing flowers at the attack site. memorials for the victims are popping up in locations throughout the season, so many in the french capital looking for a way to express their grief. we are also getting word this morning that they are lining up for hours to give blood to the injured who survived attacks, but who are in bad shape. the total number of wounded survivors is not completely clear, but it looks to be at least 200 people. rosemary. >> thank you so much, george. see you shortly. the attacks happened just outside the high tourist area near the tower, and they responded to shots fired in six locations including the stadium, restaurants, and the concert hall. this is the set of terrorist attacks in paris just over the last ten months. you may remember back in january 12 killed, 11 of them worked at the newspaper "charlie hebdo,"

and a branch in yemen claimed responsibility on that attack, in retaliation for the cartoon depiction of the prophet. a night of fun turned into a night of terror, how one woman described the chaos who lives next to a restaurant sprayed by bullets in the attacks. charlotte was with her friends at a bar next door when the gunfire and explosions broke out. the bar quickly went into lock down during the attack at the nearby restaurant. she and her friends are all okay this morning. charlotte was in paris in january during those attacks against "charlie hebdo," and says the city will unify again as it did then. >> if we let fear just take us, and then we can't do anything, so, i mean, i think we just have to be strong and just show people that we are not scared, and we are going to continue to live our lives, whatever happens.

10 minutes after 9:00 on saturday. look at the picture making its way around social media in the wake of the paris terrorist attacks. the caption, peace for paris. as you can see, it incorporates the eiffel tower, and thousands are posting this to their profiles to pay tribute to the victims online and in person. cities across the country are paying respects. >> they are. we have been seeing across the country people were ways looking for ways to express grief. mourners just hugging one another, lighting candles, a makeshift memorial in front of the frens consulate in san francisco yesterday evening. they are leaving flowers and cards saying the thoughts are with the friends and family of theirs who live in paris. in the meantime back closer to the area up in boston, police stepped up patrols outside the french consulate and mourners

there paid respects. people left flowers and cards on the step of the kons lot. place say there is no credible threat, but they decided to increase security as a precaution. >> back at home, this is what you'll see when you pick up the paper this morning. carnage in paris. the attacks headlining the front page of the philadelphia inquirer, calling it the worst violence to hit france since world war ii. the front page says at least 140 killed. it's an evolving situation out of france this morning from -- >> the numbers have changed overnight. >> yes. >> as we get a clearer sense overnight about the reasoning from isis that their statement has been translated . a quote from their statement this morning, the stinch of death will not leave their noses as long as they remain at the forefront of western culture. that was the from isis this morning about france perceived as too permissive, describing

one person dead this morning after a ruptured natural gas line exploded in rural central california yesterday. investigators say the gas line was cut by the person using heavy equipment in a farm field. that person operating the machinery died. also, two people receive second degree and third degree burns when their house caught on fire after the explosion. six people in the meantime remain critically injured after a tour bus crash in san francisco's union square. the double decker bus was carrying 30 passengers when it hit four vehicles and scaffo scaffolding in a construction site. 20 people hurt, no word on what caused the crash, but the bus accelerated before the

collision. today in delaware, the wilmington v.a. center is taking part in national access stand down program. administrators and staff will be on site to reach out to veterans waiting for urgent care. the event is going on now until noon today. the access stand down event is also in chester county. officials and staff on hand at the coatesville medical center through noon today. a new traffic pattern on the ben frank llin parkway is causi confusion for drivers. here's a closer look at the video. cars are crossing the yellow double line because drivers are not sure where to. the construction here is all part of a larger pen dot project. you have probably seen the seven bridges in the vine street express way being repaired. this is near the stretch of the parkway. drivers have to figure out the new pattern and tours because

imgrant groups call on philadelphia's mayor to keep the sanctuary program in place. the mayor announced he'sing another look at the policy that limits the city's cooperation with federal immigration officials. he says he's doing this because the federal government made changes to its own program. we spoke to councilwoman sanchez for reaction on this, and she says it could be a setback for the city. >> something less than two months left, this is something you put in the transition report to the new mayor who clearly does not share your same thought. >> the mayor elect penny says the same thing, urging the mayor not to make any changes before his administration takes over. could be a bad way to take

nbc 10 breaking news. questions and confusion this morning as the people of france try to make sense of a truly senseless act. while paris picks up the pieces, isis is speaking out. nbc 10's jim rosenfield just landed in paris to pick up coverage. we'll hear from him straight ahead. good morning, it's just before 9:30 on saturday, i'm rosemary connors, and what a day for the people of paris. here's the latest. isis claimed responsibility for the attacks last night. this video message was posted

online saying that militants armed with explosive belts and automatic weapons attacked carefully chosen targets in, quote, the capital of adultery and vice. at least 127 people killed in the attacks. that happened nearly simultaneously just outside the tourist area near the eiffel tower. the attackers targeted six locations including caves, the national sports stadium, and a concert hall where a sold out show by an american band was underway. nbc 10's george spencer has been following developments from france, george? >> rosemary, the newest information from the isis claim of responsibility now indicates the american band rock concert was targeted last night because the terrorists viewed it as, quote, an adultery party, and even with 127 dead, isis leaders say france mains at the top of its list of targets.

this cell phone video captured last night outside the concert at the theater hall shows survivors ran out the back exits. suicide bombers stormed the venue, one of paris' most popular, taking captive, killing many. the theater hall was not their only target. terrorists struck a soccer game where the french president was among the audience an crowded a cafes. we talked to one willing native now living in paris about the chaos she witnessed at dipper with friends at one terrorism scene. >> to have been there and know how close it was to us, it was not exactly where we were, but it was close enough to know that it could have happened anywhere. we were in a highly populated touristy area, and at the time, we did not have facts or who was the target.

we didn't know if americans were a target or if certain religious groups, we had no idea. >> tremendous confusion last night for jessica and her friends. they tried to take shelter at the american embassy, they tell us, they are in pairris, but th were told that, too, might be a target. eventually, they found safety in the apartments of natives whom they were staying there with. right now, we know that french security leaders are meeting to try to efficiently out their next steps. certainly, president obama along with other french allies have pledged their support, and the investigative focus centered on whether the eight dead assailants may have had other accomplices in france. >> thank you. we'll check back before the hour is out. nbc 10's jim rosenfield is in paris. take a look. >> we just landed at the airport here outside of paris.

you can see there are armed police in the airport, but for all intents and purposes, the airport is normal here right now. we'll get into downtown paris and start to talk to people with local connections to our area, pennsylvania, delaware, and new jersey and bring you the stories tonight at 11:00 on nbc 10 news. back to you. >> the attacks abroad in paris are impacting security in our country to some extent. in our area, the french consulate in center city near suburban station is on alert this morning, same is true at french embassies and consulates in other parts of the world. last night, we spoke with a restaurant owner in center city from france. he owns caribou cafe on walnut street just returning from a visit to his home country last weekend and spent last night checking in on friends and family. he was unaware of what happened until we spoke to him says he can't believe such a large scale attack was carried out in paris. we also caught up with a man at the airport headed to europe for a new job, and he now says he's

understandably nervous about safety overseas. >> definite worried. it's seven and a half hour flight, and, i mean, going to think about it while up in the air. >> homeland security experts say we should expect higher levels of security around our airports and train stations. the state department has hotlines set up if you're worried about any loved ones in paris. there's more information on that on our website. we are learning that at least three people died during the explosions that happened outside the soccer stadium. inside, it was chaos. this video comes from a philadelphia man who was there. he says parents were on the ground trying to cover their children. eventually, stadium security guards, as you can see, ushered the crowd on to the field. they had them wait there for the all clear. we are continuing to follow developments in paris and will bring you new information throughout the newscast. we'll also keep you posted online throughout the day at nbc10.com and on the nbc 10 app.

face of the paris terrorist attacks, singing the french national anthem last night after the attacks as they left the national stadium outside of paris. they were held on lockdown for hours after multiple explosions went off just outside the stadium. it all happened during the match between tlo%e french and german national soccer teams. the president was there at the time, but he was able to get to safety. q% isis claimed responsibil for last night attacks as we've been reporting. the attacks killed at least 127 people, and the militants say france remains a target. nbc 10 ease george spencer has more on the isis connection, but, first, george, an update. >> new important information we just got. the state department official is now confirms that americans are among thefl, injured there in pairg paris. something we talked about earlier, not clear how many were french nationals, how many were visitors or study abroad students, that sort of thing. the state department officials confirms that americans are ? the injured not the

deceased. injured not the that's what we know right now. more to develop. in the meantime, though, really troubling explanation by isis for the massacre coming to light, really, throughout the morning over the last couple hours. the terrorist's groups online statement translated throughout the morning that claim of responsibility posted online, you can see it right here in both arabic and french. supporters circulated an audio version that was read by an unidentified speaker. now, that statement describes the rock concert targeted last night as a spot where, quote, hundreds of apostics were attended and a adultery party. they thought it was a symbol of western thought, permissiveness, and, obviously, pieces are coming together, and that's frightening for the french people that isis statement of responsibility that you just saw, it says the french country will still remain at the top of isis target list, even moving

nbc so breaking news. >> before we leave you, we want to give you a last live look outside one of the attack sites in paris. you can see the outpouring of support there. flowers left, candles presumably left and lit later on this evening. it's just an incredibly sad day for the people of france. this morning, the french president is calling last night's attack an act of war. isis is claiming responsibility for the shootings and explosions that killed at least 127 people. george, you've been following all the developments coming in into the digital operations center and news room in the morning. fill us in. >> the last five minutes since a fews ago, a report from the associated press that one of the bombers in the paris attack was a young frenchman who had been

flagged for his ties with islamic extremism, so this idea that possibly some terrorists may have been home grown, very troubling for the french. also, news out of the state department, a spokesman there confirms that americans are among the injured in paris. he did not comment if americans were among those killed. this video shows people who were running for their lives out of a concert hall there after explosions and gunfire last night. that concert hall, one of six venues where attacks happened. the gunmen also targeted cafes and a soccer stadium with a soccer match underway last night. this morning, police continued the search for clues at all scenes, and france's president vowing this morning in the first public words today, a merciless response to the attacks. the president raised the nation's security to the very highest level declaring three

days of mourning, and now we get this word that the possibility from police there in france that one of these bombers may have been a frenchman, a young frenchman with ties to islamic extremism, known ties to islamic extremism. >> it's interesting. last night, watching the reports come in, one witness described seeing, inside that concert hall, one of the attackers being as young as 17, 18, 19, so it may be that person they identified. >> so hard to imagine that kids really, that young, people that young could create this level of trauma for that country, and even more troubling, if these are people who grew up in france and became extreme, extreme as they got older. >> now the response comes from the u.s., and, of course, from the rest of the world. we know that support will be -- >> show of support. >> pouring in today. >> absolutely. >> george, thank you for being with us this morning. >> absolutely. >> we'll follow the developments in paris throughout the day here
